Ketsiri Kongkaew: 20-Year-Old Student Who Lost Her Leg Shortly After Receiving The AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine Has Passed Away

PHANG NGA, THAILAND – The 20-year-old student who lost her leg shortly after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine has passed away. Ketsiri Kongkaew got the vaccine on August 13th and had her left leg amputated above the knee just a week later. She died yesterday at 6:30 pm after suffering a brain hemorrhage. Harlia Kongkaew, her 85-year-old grandmother with whom she lived, is heartbroken by her sudden death.

On September 3rd, Krabi Hospital, where she had her operation, said that her condition had improved and she was sent back to Phang Nga Hospital for recovery. Her health suddenly deteriorated last week and it was revealed that she had suffered brain bleedings on the night of Friday, October 22nd. An emergency brain surgery was performed on the early morning of Saturday but she didn’t recover.

Fellow students at Phangnga Community College and friends had raised money for Ketsiri after her amputation to buy a prosthetic leg so that she could go to school again after she recovered. Her sudden death has left her relatives and friends devastated.
