Chai Koh Meow: Malaysia Health Ministry Official Dies 8 Days After Pfizer Booster Shot, MOH Urges Public ‘Not To Speculate’

MALAYSIA – Dr. Chai Koh Meow, a Senior Assistant Director at Malaysia’s Ministry of Health has died 9 days after receiving his booster shot last Tuesday. The 58-year-old unexpectedly passed away in his sleep on November 17th. Dr. Chai had always been known to be in good health and was present for duty as usual at the MOH on November 16th. Authorities are now investigating if the cause of his death was related to the vaccine.

The Ministry of Health has urged members of the public to refrain from making any speculations on the Senior Assistant Director’s death.

Dr. Chai’s first two doses came from the Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac. Health director-general Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that Chai had completed his COVID-19 vaccination with the Pfizer booster on November 9th and did not report any unusual side effects afterward. In fact, he was present at work and on duty as usual until the 16th of November.

Dr. Abdullah said in a statement that an investigation is ongoing and urged the public to refrain from speculation into his sudden death.

“MOH regrets the demise of one of its committed and dedicated officers.

We send our condolences to all family members of Dr. Chai Koh Meow.”
